Emmy Award Winner Dawud Anyabwile is the owner of Big City Entertainment and the co-creator and illustrator of the Brotherman comics series. His Brotherman Comics team also includes writer/co-creator Guy Sims and master colorist Brian McGee, who has worked with Disney, Warner Brothers, Turner/Cartoon Network, Viacom/MTV, and Sony Pictures. Even though Anyabwile has been self-publishing for 25 years, he says that when he discovered BookBaby, “It made the self-publishing process a lot easier.” “We chose to work with BookBaby because of the access to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other distribution outlets, which were key to the expansion of our market reach,” explains Anyabwile. “The marketing strategies we use are primarily social media platforms, and we also deal a lot with the public on a regular basis doing comic conventions, art exhibitions, and book signings at various locations.” That makes having online distribution channels like Amazon and B&N stocked and ready to deliver of major importance, because “distribution is key to self-publishing.” And while distribution was one big reason Anyabwile chose BookBaby, our customer service sealed the deal. “What I enjoyed most about working with BookBaby was the simplicity of dealing with the customer service. At first I was kind of nervous about publishing a 110-page graphic novel – this was my first time doing something on that level on my own – but the customer service was easy to reach and they worked closely with us to make sure everything was done in a timely manner. When we got the final product, we were blown away.” Learn more about Brotherman Comics.
